Historic Church reopens in Beira, Mozambique under new leadership
The Church of the Holy Trinity in Beira has reopened its doors under the guidance of Metropolitan Ioannis of Zambia and the Holy Diocese of Mozambique. The revival of this historic Orthodox Church marks a momentous occasion for the local community.
During the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Ioannis named Fr. Ioannis Thomas as the new priest of the parish. Speaking to the congregation, he emphasized the significant role that the Greek Orthodox Community and the Church have played in the community, both historically and presently.
In his speech, the Metropolitan acknowledged the importance of Fr. Ioannis Thomas’ appointment. He encouraged him to embrace his new role as a spiritual leader, expressing confidence in his ability to serve his country and nurture the spiritual growth of the community.
The Metropolitan also expressed gratitude to all those who attended the reopening ceremony, particularly acknowledging the presence of the Greek Military Training Mission, who are aiding in the development of the Chimoio region of Mozambique as part of the European Union’s mission.
Fr. Ioannis Thomas, a Philosophy graduate and teacher, has been chosen to lead the revival of the once vibrant Greek Orthodox Community in Beira. Assisted by Fr. Stylianos, he will embark on the mission to restore the church’s prominence within the local community and beyond.
This reopening of the historic Church in Beira signifies a fresh beginning and a commitment to preserving the rich history and legacy of the Greek Orthodox Community in Mozambique.
