Kate Kaufling, a University of Kentucky dance team member, passed away on March 31 after battling osteosarcoma, a form of bone cancer, as confirmed by the university. She was 20 years old. Alongside her twin sister Abbey, Kate joined the team last year, bringing her radiance and spirit to the squad as a nursing student.
Head coach Dawn Walters expressed, “Kate brought immense joy to our coaching team and everyone she encountered.
Her radiant smile illuminated every room, and she was cherished by all who knew her.
We will forever honor her resilience in facing osteosarcoma, displaying unwavering bravery until the end.
The Kaufling family remains in our thoughts, prayers, and hearts.”
Furthermore, UK Executive Associate Athletics Director noted that Kate excelled not only in dance but also as a dedicated and exceptional student, showcasing relentless dedication.
“Even amidst her battle with cancer, Kate persevered with her studies, serving as a remarkable inspiration for her peers,” the administrator remarked.
“Kate was cherished by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, and her absence will be profoundly felt.”
In January, Kate achieved a significant milestone in her health journey, posting an Instagram video of herself ringing the symbolic bell to commemorate the completion of her chemotherapy treatments.
