As the NBA Draft approaches, Cormac Ryan has been a rather busy man.
The former UNC basketball standout isn’t considered a first-round pick, but is trying to find his way onto an NBA roster this summer. Based on what he brings to the table, it isn’t out of the question to think that an NBA team would take a chance on him, at least bringing him on board for some NBA Summer League action.
On Monday, Ryan had a pre-draft workout with the Eastern Conference champion Boston Celtics.
If you follow Ryan on social media (particularly Instagram), you’ve probably noticed that he hasn’t been shy in posting his pre-draft workout visits. Last week, Ryan worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers, and has also worked out for a few other teams during the process.
Ryan is an excellent three-point shooter, which makes him an interesting prospect in a league that currently features teams that are always looking for above-average shooting. Along with his ability to shoot the ball from deep, Ryan is a gritty player who can serve as a lockdown defender, an energy boost and also a leader both on and off the court.
Although his time in Chapel Hill was short, Ryan made a huge impact on the UNC basketball program during his one year as a Tar Heel. From hitting big-time shots against rival Duke to standing on top of the team bus following the ACC regular season title clinching win over the Blue Devils, Ryan instantly became a fan favorite among Tar Heel faithful, as his presence was most certainly felt throughout the 2023-2024 season.
Similar to former teammate Armando Bacot, Ryan now looks for a home at the professional level. Who knows: maybe an NBA team will elect to take a chance on both of them to reunite them in the pros, or maybe we’ll just have to hope that we get to see them compete against each other on the sports’ biggest stage.
