Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw is going to pitch this week. On Wednesday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Kershaw will pitch a two-inning simulated game on Friday at Rancho Cucamonga.
Kershaw, who recently pitched to batters at Dodger Stadium, is set to face hitters at Rancho Cucamonga next, marking a significant advancement in his recovery from shoulder surgery during the offseason.
After his simulated game, Kershaw is set to make a rehab start and appears to be ahead of schedule in his recovery.
In February, Kershaw mentioned aiming for a return around “July-ish, August-ish.” An early-to-mid June rehab start could see him back by July, possibly earlier.
Still, caution is key with Kershaw, who underwent surgery to repair his shoulder’s glenohumeral ligament this offseason. The Dodgers will handle their 36-year-old pitcher with care, given this is his first major surgery.
Kershaw continued his dominant ways in 2023, going 13-5 with a 2.46 ERA across 131.2 innings. He made his 10th career All-Star appearance to go along with his three Cy Young awards and one MVP.
