The group, spearheaded by ex-Western United CEO Maurice Bisetto, will assume ownership of the Jets from a coalition of other A-League clubs who have been supporting the team since 2021. Maverick Sports Partners’ purchase of the Jets hinges on approvals from the Australian Professional Leagues (APL) and regulatory procedures from Football Australia, which include fit and proper person assessments.
Bisetto, instrumental in establishing Western United and their introduction to the Isuzu UTE A-League in 2019, now serves as Director at Maverick Sports Partners. He emphasizes that the new ownership group for Newcastle intends to bolster the club’s ties to the local area, boost attendance, secure financial support from corporate and government allies, and nurture young, local talent through the club’s academy to excel in both the Liberty A-League Women and Isuzu UTE A-League Men.
Bisetto expressed confidence in the club, the A-Leagues, and its players, affirming their commitment to forging success for the Jets and the local area. He highlighted the impressive football culture in the region, noting its historical fanbase and active participation, emphasizing the goal of uniting these
supporters for both the Men’s and Women’s games.
