According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Los Angeles Lakers and guard Max Christie have reached a four-year contract extension worth $32 million. Christie, who was slated to enter restricted free agency this summer, will now remain with the Lakers, as this deal precludes him from exploring other options.
Los Angeles has demonstrated confidence in Christie’s ongoing development since drafting him 35th overall in 2022 from Michigan State. He showed improvement from his rookie season, resulting in increased playing time (14.1 minutes per game), as he aims to secure a consistent role in the team’s rotation.
Under the guidance of new head coach JJ Redick, there’s optimism that Max Christie’s shooting skills will improve. Christie experienced a decline in both his 3-point and free throw percentages during the 2023-24 season, which could hinder his NBA prospects unless he regains his shooting form.
However, with Redick, a former sharpshooter, leading the team, Christie is expected to benefit greatly. The Lakers’ willingness to make a long-term financial commitment to him indicates confidence in his ability to fulfill his potential as a player.
