A familiar face is making a return to Pittsburgh as the Steelers have signed linebacker Tyler Matakevich to a one-year deal.
Matakevich, drafted by the Steelers in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft, spent his first four seasons with the team before playing the last four seasons with the Buffalo Bills.
Over his eight-season career, Matakevich has played in 129 games, starting one. He has accumulated 47 tackles, including 31 solo, four passes defended, and one interception.
Primarily a special teams player, Matakevich has made a notable impact with 64 special teams tackles. In his final season with the Steelers in 2019, he led the NFL with 16 special teams tackles, setting a career high with 14 solo stops.
Matakevich played college football at Temple, where he was named AAC Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus All-American in 2015.
In a related move, the Steelers have released safety Jalen Elliott.
