The Milwaukee Brewers, who are fighting to secure the National League Central title, faced another setback on Wednesday with the news that standout reliever Abner Uribe will be out for the rest of the season. Uribe shared on social media that he had knee surgery and is now concentrating on getting ready for the 2025 season.
The 24-year-old Uribe, who was 2-2 this season with a 6.91 ERA, had a limited sample size with only 14 appearances and hasn’t pitched since May 1. Despite his less impressive numbers this year, he was highly effective in 2023, posting a 1-0 record and a 1.76 ERA in 32 games. Over his major league career, he has struck out 53 batters in 45 innings.
Though it’s a significant setback for Uribe, it’s also another challenge for the Brewers. Milwaukee has now lost Uribe, Wade Miley, Robert Gasser, and Brandon Woodruff to season-ending injuries. Additionally, Devin Williams has yet to pitch this season, and the team also traded or let go of Corbin Burnes, Adrian Houser, and Eric Lauer during the offseason. First-year manager Pat Murphy has performed admirably with this roster, but managing these injuries in the second half while pursuing another division title will be extremely difficult.
Although most of baseball resumes play on Friday night, the Brewers will start the second half of their season on Saturday night. They will face the Minnesota Twins with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET.
