Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman recently made his return to the field after taking time off to be with his son in the hospital. During the challenging period for the Freeman family, Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper wanted to make sure they knew he was there to support them.
Harper sent Freeman messages throughout his son’s hospital stay. Despite being on rival teams with their own World Series aspirations, Harper understands that certain things are more important than baseball, according to Alex Coffey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Harper remarked, “When you hear about someone’s child or anyone facing difficulties, nothing is more crucial than having healthy kids. There are many things we might want in life, but the most important thing is ensuring your family is well.”
HarHarperpe kept in touch with Freeman during his son’s hospital stay. Although they are on different teams with their own World Series goals, Harper recognizes that some things are more significant than baseball, as noted by Alex Coffey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Harper said, “When you hear about someone’s child or anyone facing difficulties, nothing is more important than having healthy kids. While there are many things we might want in life, the most crucial thing is ensuring your family is healthy.”
Harper added, “I was checking in on him, of course. The game is much smaller compared to this, and I care about Freddie as a person and his entire family. I just wanted to make sure he was alright. I also wanted to check on Max.”
Freeman’s three-year-old son, Max, was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, a rare condition where the immune system attacks the nervous system, leading to full-body paralysis on July 26. Freeman then left the team to be with his family.
Despite Max’s ongoing struggle, he was able to return home on August 4 after an eight-day fight in the hospital. With his son’s recovery, Freeman rejoined the Dodgers on August 6.
Throughout this challenging time, Bryce Harper focused on ensuring Freeman and his family were well. In such an unimaginable situation, Harper felt it was crucial to support his friend. While winning is the primary concern when they face each other on the field, Harper and Freeman both understand that personal matters, especially involving children, transcend team rivalries.
