Team USA coach Steve Kerr is described Stephen Curry’s performance as a “storybook” ending for the US men’s basketball team on Saturday, sealing a 98-87 victory over France and reinforcing his reputation as the greatest shooter ever. However, he didn’t achieve this feat by himself.
The champagne-popping moment was unprecedented, as some of the greatest basketball talents—particularly the golden trio of Captain LeMerica, Chef Curry, and Slim Reaper (Kevin Durant)—brought Avengers-level action to life on the court in Paris.
Team USA’s win over France concluded with LeBron James, now a three-time gold medalist, being named the Men’s Basketball Olympics MVP. However, as the four-time NBA champion added this accolade to his collection, not everyone in the basketball community was pleased to see the title shift away from The Golden Boy. Former NBA All-Star Stephon Marbury, who was present at the final in Paris, strongly disagreed with James’ MVP selection.
“They gave the MVP to the wrong player. Maybe they called the wrong name by mistake,” Marbury said on Instagram. His comments drew attention on a basketball page that featured a thrilling video of Curry making a nearly impossible shot. In the video, Marbury’s distant disapproval of the MVP choice is initially heard in his live commentary. (The post has since been removed.)
“We need to revisit the moment when @stephencurry30 proved himself as the best shooter ever. In international basketball, if you can’t shoot, you shouldn’t have the ball at the end of the game,” the former NBA star added.
