After the disappointment of last season, Atlanta Falcons head coach Arthur Smith has bolstered the team by bringing in new talented players…

Despite the Atlanta Falcons missing the playoffs last season, there is optimism for their prospects in the upcoming 2024 NFL season. Their running back unit looks promising, particularly after receiving a favorable recent ranking.

The 2023 season fell short of expectations for Atlanta, especially after they had created cap space and added new talent. Head coach Arthur Smith and general manager Terry Fontenot find themselves in a “prove-…it year,” but the team struggled due to inconsistent quarterback play from Desmond Ridder.

Ridder’s performance fluctuated, as he alternated between strong and weak showings, often failing to deliver critical throws and frequently turning the ball over. Consequently, head coach Arthur Smith rotated Ridder with veteran backup Taylor Heinicke during the second half of the season.

While the offense faced challenges, the Falcons’ defense stood out, ranking in the top 15 in PFF’s grades. Key additions such as Kaden Elliss, David Onyemata, and Jessie Bates III significantly improved the unit. Bates led the team with 89 tackles and 6 interceptions, earning Second-Team All-Pro honors.

However, the Falcons’ defensive line was aging, with an average starter age of 32.5. This, combined with the NFL’s lowest pass-rush win rate, suggests the next head coach will need to focus on improving the trenches.

Ultimately, the Falcons ended the season with a 7-10 record, maintaining their trend of mediocre performances and securing the 8th overall draft pick. The team’s ongoing struggle to find a stable solution at the quarterback position has been a persistent issue in recent years.

Atlanta Falcons’ Running Back Corps Receive Favorable Ranking Ahead of 2024 NFL Season

The Falcons’ running back unit made significant progress, led by rookie Bijan Robinson. Fortunately, this group received a favorable ranking ahead of the upcoming 2024 season, as noted in an article by Trevor Sikkema for PFF.

Last season, binson, Bijan Rothe team’s eighth overall pick from Texas, entered with high expectations. The rookie met these expectations, significantly contributing to the Falcons’ running back group and helping them rise to the challenge.

The coming season will see whether Robinson will take another step forward to elevate Atlanta’s running back corps. If he does, expect the Falcons to appear in the playoffs next year.
