Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna is reportedly very interested in a Tottenham Hotspur player who is expected to depart this summer.
Tottenham have already begun making significant changes in preparation for a crucial transfer window under Ange Postecoglou.
Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, Eric Dier, and Ivan Perisic all left on free transfers last week. Tanguy Ndombele appears to be next, with reports suggesting he has agreed to end his contract at Tottenham a year early.
Tottenham are now focusing on securing transfer fees for several fringe players. Emerson Royal might join AC Milan, while Genoa is interested in making Djed Spence’s loan move permanent. Meanwhile, Spurs need to find a buyer for Joe Rodon, who did not secure promotion with Leeds United.
Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has indicated that newly-promoted Ipswich Town might become an option for the Welshman.
Tottenham may now lose a wonderkid they believe will become a star, as discussions begin.
McKenna admires Tottenham’s Joe Rodon
Speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast, the journalist provided an update on Joe Rodon’s future.
Despite Tottenham extending his contract by a year last week, the center-back is expected to leave this summer.
“Joe Rodon will be heading off this summer, we will wait to see where he’s going,” Gold said.
“I’m intrigued to see whether he ends up somewhere like Ipswich. I know Kieran McKenna is quite a big fan of him, so I wonder whether that would be an option for him.”
What Rodon has said about Spurs future amid Ipswich interest
Rodon looked set to join Leeds after impressing at Elland Road last season. But a 1-0 defeat in the play-off final has thrown a possible move into doubt.
The Welshman spoke about his Spurs future ahead of the trip to Wembley and admitted he’s looking for stability moving forward.
“It would be nice to have stability and know where I am next season,” Rodon said. “I’ve always aimed to reach the elite level, and hopefully, I can achieve that with Leeds, but you never know.
“I don’t want to look too far ahead, although I do love it here and Leeds feels like a second home to me now. I’m just focusing on giving my best and getting this club back to where it belongs.”
Rodon was acquired for £15 million from Swansea City in October 2020 but has made just 24 appearances for Spurs.
McKenna will be familiar with the center-back after facing him twice in the Championship last season.
This signing would make a lot of sense for the East Anglian club as they seek to add Premier League experience to their squad.
