The New York Giants have announced the signing of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to a one-year contract worth up to $21 million, with $10.5 million fully guaranteed.
Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowl selection and Super Bowl XLVIII champion, spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite missing the first six games due to a calf injury, he started 11 games, throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns, and five interceptions, completing 63.7% of his passes.
Prior to his tenure in Pittsburgh, Wilson played two seasons with the Denver Broncos following a significant trade from the Seattle Seahawks in 2022. His time in Denver did not meet expectations, leading to his release and subsequent signing with the Steelers.
The Giants had been actively seeking to bolster their quarterback position after a challenging 3-14 season. They previously signed Jameis Winston to a two-year deal and were linked to other quarterbacks, including Aaron Rodgers. With Wilson’s addition, the Giants aim to revitalize their offense and provide leadership on the field.
Wilson expressed enthusiasm about joining the Giants, recalling his Super Bowl victory at MetLife Stadium and expressing a desire to replicate that success in New York.
As the Giants prepare for the upcoming season, Wilson’s experience and leadership are expected to play a pivotal role in the team’s efforts to return to playoff co
ntention.
