Big performances from Jake Holton and Jose De La Cruz propel the SeaWolves and Flying Tigers. Here are scores, news, and updates from the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Wednesday, June 19, 2024.

St. Paul Saints 8, Toledo Mud Hens 7

After a rough outing by Brant Hurter, the Mud Hens rallied but ultimately lost as the Saints secured their second consecutive win.

Ryan Vilade started strong with a solo home run in the first inning. Riley Unroe singled in the third and scored on a Vilade double, putting the Hens ahead 2-0.

Hurter struggled in the bottom of the third, allowing five runs, including a three-run homer by Jair Camargo. He managed to finish five innings, and the offense quickly responded.

Bligh Madris walked in the fourth, followed by doubles from Eddys Leonard and Justice Bigbie, bringing the score to 5-4. Andrew Navigato hit a two-run homer, regaining a 6-5 lead. Leonard added another home run in the sixth, making it 7-5.

Easton Lucas had control issues, walking several batters and giving up a double in the seventh. Trey Wingenter replaced him but allowed more runs, and the Hens couldn’t mount another comeback.

Dayton Dragons 9, West Michigan Whitecaps 6

Lefty Joe Miller struggled, and the bullpen couldn’t contain the Dragons on Wednesday.

The Whitecaps took an early lead with Seth Stephenson’s solo homer to left-center. After walks by Roberto Campos and Luis Santana, Luke Gold singled in Campos, making it 2-0.

However, Miller was hit hard in the second, giving up seven runs, including two home runs. Chris Mauloni allowed another run in the third, making it 8-2 Dayton.

The Whitecaps responded in the fourth with Gold’s single and a Danny Serretti double. In the fifth, Stephenson and Max Anderson singled, and a Santana sac fly scored Stephenson. Singles from Gold and Serretti set up Bennett Lee, who doubled in two runs, cutting the deficit to 8-6.

The comeback stalled as the Dragons scored again in the seventh, and their bullpen held firm.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 10, Bradenton Marauders 2

The Flying Tigers excelled offensively but remained just behind the Clearwater Threshers in the division.

Cleiverth Perez allowed two runs in the second, but Jake Miller dominated from the third, and the bullpen shut out the Marauders afterward.

Kevin McGonigle tripled and scored on an Eduardo Valencia groundout in the third. Jose De La Cruz doubled and scored on a Patrick Lee single, tying it at 2-2.

In the sixth, Lee scored after a walk, a stolen base, an error, and a wild pitch, giving Lakeland a 3-2 lead.

David Smith scored on a Valencia single in the seventh. In the eighth, McGonigle hit a two-run single, and De La Cruz followed with a two-run single, extending the lead to 8-2. In the ninth, the Flying Tigers added two more runs.
