Goga Bitadze Embraces the ‘Orlando Magic Way’ in His Second Opportunity

Goga Bitadze, a promising young center from Georgia, is making the most of his second chance with the Orlando Magic. After a challenging start to his NBA career, Bitadze is determined to thrive in his new environment, embracing the culture and philosophy of the Orlando Magic, known as the “Orlando Magic Way.”

Bitadze entered the NBA with high expectations when he was selected as the 18th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft by the Indiana Pacers. As a 6’11” center with a versatile skill set, he was seen as a player with the potential to become a key piece in the Pacers’ future. However, his time in Indiana was plagued by inconsistent minutes and limited opportunities to showcase his talent. Although he displayed flashes of brilliance, Bitadze struggled to find his rhythm and carve out a consistent role within the Pacers’ deep rotation.

In March 2023, Bitadze’s time with the Pacers came to an end when he was waived by the team. But as one door closed, another opened. The Orlando Magic, a young team in the midst of a rebuilding process, saw potential in the Georgian center and signed him for the remainder of the 2022-2023 season. It was here that Bitadze found his new beginning and a chance to revive his NBA career.

Under the leadership of head coach Jamahl Mosley, the Magic have been committed to developing young talent and fostering a competitive, team-oriented culture—values that are part of what the team calls the “Orlando Magic Way.” For Bitadze, this philosophy is a perfect fit. “The team is all about playing hard, competing every night, and putting the team first,” Bitadze said in a recent interview. “That’s the mentality I’ve always tried to have, and I’m grateful for this second chance to show what I can do.”

Bitadze’s game has always been intriguing. He has the ability to stretch the floor with his shooting, protect the rim with his shot-blocking instincts, and contribute as a playmaker in the post. However, with the Pacers, he rarely had the chance to put all of these skills on display. Now in Orlando, he has found a team that is willing to give him the opportunity to develop and grow at his own pace.

The Magic have a young and dynamic roster, featuring players like Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Wendell Carter Jr. Bitadze’s presence adds depth to their frontcourt and gives the team another versatile big man to work with. Although he faces stiff competition for minutes, the team’s commitment to player development means that Bitadze will have ample opportunities to prove himself.

As the Magic continue their rebuilding process, Bitadze is eager to be part of their long-term plans. His second opportunity with the team not only provides him with a fresh start but also allows him to embrace a culture that aligns with his values. The “Orlando Magic Way” may be just what Bitadze needs to unlock his fu

ll potential.
