BYU Cougars men’s basketball forward Kanon Catchings has entered the transfer portal, signaling his intention to leave the program after one season.
Catchings, a former four-star recruit from Brownsburg, Indiana, initially committed to Purdue before reopening his recruitment and signing with BYU in June 2024. During his freshman year, he averaged 7.2 points per game on 41.1% shooting. He started the first 14 games of the season, averaging 25 minutes per game, but saw his role diminish after January 11, averaging 11 minutes over the final 17 games. His standout performance came on January 28 against Baylor, where he scored 23 points on a perfect 8-for-8 shooting.
Catchings entered the transfer portal with a “do not contact” tag, indicating he likely has a preferred destination in mind.
Catchings’ departure marks the first player to leave BYU this offsea
