Breaking News: Luka Dončić, following a major trade to the Lakers, has submitted his resignation letter after requesting the team to offer him a salary higher than what was agreed upon.

Luka Dončić’s recent trade to the Los Angeles Lakers has significantly impacted his contract situation, potentially altering his future earnings. Prior to the trade, Dončić was eligible for a five-year, $346 million super-max extension with the Dallas Mavericks, which would have been the largest contract in NBA history.

With the trade to the Lakers, Dončić’s contract options have changed. He is now eligible to sign a four-year contract extension with the Lakers worth $229 million, averaging approximately $57.25 million per year.

Alternatively, Dončić can opt out of his current contract after the 2025-26 season and sign a new five-year deal with the Lakers, potentially worth up to $418 million, depending on the salary cap and other factors.

These options reflect the Lakers’ commitment to securing Dončić’s services for the long term, offering him a substantial salary that underscores his status as one of the NBA’s premier talents.
