The Los Angeles Lakers’ trash is now another team’s treasure.

Rod Boone of The Charlotte Observer reported this week that former Lakers assistant Chris Jent is joining the Charlotte Hornets. He will be part of the staff under new head coach Charles Lee.

Jent, 54, is a respected veteran coach with nearly two decades of experience as an assistant across six different NBA teams. After spending the last two seasons with the Lakers, he was let go when the team fired head coach Darvin Ham earlier this month, which included the dismissal of Ham’s entire staff, Jent included.

The Hornets are assembling a strong team around Lee, their incoming first-year head coach, currently an assistant with the Boston Celtics. Jent will join former Utah Jazz assistant Lamar Skeeter, who was recently hired as Lee’s top assistant, and former Chicago Bulls assistant Josh Longstaff on the Charlotte staff.
