Nottingham Forest have a number of players who will see their future come into question during the summer – and one of them is World Cup winner Gonzalo Montiel.
The Reds performer joined the ranks at the City Ground in the summer of 2023 initially on a season-long loan deal with an option of a purchase.
“It’s evident that Montiel’s time at Forest hasn’t unfolded as expected. With only 14 appearances across all competitions and no games since February, his tenure has been disappointing. Initially struggling to impress under Steve Cooper, he started just twice, prompting criticism from David Prutton after his debut against Burnley. Despite initially showing promise under Nuno Espirito Santo, an injury setback has hindered his development, relegating him to a backup role from the bench.”
“Neco Williams has emerged as a reliable option at right-back, showcasing significant improvement throughout the season, which has posed challenges for Montiel at Forest. Like many players, Montiel will be contemplating his future at the club. Recent developments shed light on the situation of the player who boasts a World Cup winner’s medal.”
