Seven weeks following Brad Arthur’s dismissal, the Parramatta Eels have at last introduced his successor. On Monday morning, the club officially announced that Jason Ryles would assume the role of head coach on a four-year contract starting in 2025. Ryles embarked on his coaching career right after retiring as a player in 2014, joining the Storm under Craig Bellamy, where he contributed to four grand finals and two premiership victories.
“We are pleased to have Jason join the Parramatta Eels,” stated Eels chairman Sean McElduff in a press release.
Jason Ryles’ successful background in winning environments and dedication to nurturing young talent aligns perfectly with our club’s direction. After narrowly missing out on the Dragons job to Shane Flanagan last year, Ryles is eager to take on his first head coaching role at Parramatta. “I am deeply honored to be chosen as head coach of the Parramatta Eels,” Ryles expressed. “This club boasts a storied history and passionate fanbase, and I am excited to mentor these young players.”
Ryles had long been seen as the natural successor to Bellamy once the veteran coach retires.
Eels CEO Jim Sarantinos described Ryles’ appointment as marking a “new era for our football program.”
“We’re delighted to bring someone of Jason’s caliber on board to lead our NRL team going forward.
“He is widely respected as a coach, and we believe he has a bright future in the NRL.
“We are confident that under Jason’s guidance, our club will be competing for premierships in the years ahead.”
Storm legend Cameron Smith endorsed the move, saying, “I’m very happy for Jason. He’s always striving to improve himself in his coaching style.”
“He has gained valuable experience with top organizations and individuals. I’m eager to see what the future holds for the Eels.”
Arthur was dismissed after the Eels’ disappointing performance against the Storm in Magic Round, and since then, under interim coach Trent Barrett, they have only managed to win one game.
The club currently sits at the bottom of the NRL ladder.
