  • Eldora Speedway recently announced that Levi Jones, a former USAC (United States Auto Club) champion and well-known figure in motorsports, will serve as its new general manager. Jones steps into the role at a pivotal moment, following the passing of the previous GM, Jerry Gappens, and the recent sale of Eldora Speedway by legendary NASCAR driver Tony Stewart. Stewart had owned the iconic dirt track for nearly two decades, elevating its reputation as one of the premier locations for dirt racing in the United States.

The appointment of Jones marks a new era for Eldora Speedway, often referred to as the “World’s Greatest Dirt Track.” Jones brings an impressive background in both racing and motorsports management. As a driver, he won multiple USAC championships and built a reputation for excellence in dirt racing. His management experience includes a recent role as the director of Indy NXT, a developmental series for IndyCar. Stewart praised Jones, noting that his mix of on-track experience and executive acumen make him well-suited to guide Eldora through this transition and preserve the Speedway’s high standards.

Jones takes over as Eldora moves forward after the passing of Gappens, a beloved figure who played a significant role in the track’s operations and success. Following Gappens’ untimely death, Stewart expressed his admiration for the entire Eldora staff, especially Jonathan Bateman, who served as interim general manager during a challenging time for the organization. Stewart acknowledged Bateman’s dedication in keeping Eldora running smoothly, particularly during major events like the Dirt Late Model Dream.

As the new general manager, Jones faces the dual responsibility of honoring Eldora’s rich legacy while also bringing his own vision to the track’s operations. Fans, racers, and industry insiders have responded positively, expressing hope that Jones will continue the traditions that make Eldora a unique place in the dirt racing world. Jones himself has expressed excitement about the role, emphasizing his commitment to maintaining Eldora’s reputation as a top-tier racing venue.

The transition in leadership and ownership at Eldora is being watched closely, with the racing community anticipating how Jones and the new ownership will shape the Speedway’s

future.
