I recently wrote my final recruiting notebook over the weekend, but I wanted to share a quick update after Kanon Catchings’ visit since I know many BYU fans are eager for news about him.
Kanon Catchings
As I reported over the weekend, Kanon Catchings visited BYU on Tuesday. This was his first visit since being released from his National Letter of Intent from Purdue. The Cougars have a strong chance to land Kanon due to Tim Fanning’s relationship with him, the significant playing time he would likely receive at BYU, and their pitch to develop him for the NBA. Sources indicate that Kanon has visits planned to Florida State and NC State.
I’ve heard that BYU’s visit with Kanon went well, and BYU is a serious contender for him. While I don’t have an exact timeline for his decision, I expect it to come within a week.
Kanon is a top 40 recruit in the 2024 class and at 6-foot-9 can play either forward spot. He’d have a great chance to get a lot of minutes at the four with his ability to space the floor and create his own shot, but he’d play multiple positions if he comes to BYU.
Keylan Boone
The UNLV forward is entering the portal, according to Jeff Goodman, and is taking advantage of a NCAA ruling that grants him an extra year.
Boone makes a ton of sense for BYU. At 6-foot-8, he is a stretch four that is a good rebounder and would fit right in with what BYU needs. Boone was a All-MWC player at UNLV last year after averaging 13 points, 7 rebounds, and making over 50 threes. Prior to UNLV, he played 3 seasons at Oklahoma State and Pacific. At Pacific, he scored 19 points versus BYU one game
