Detroit Lions waive/injured Antoine Green, add new QB

Firstly, they have waived receiver Antoine Green with an injury designation. Green sustained a concussion and neck injury in Thursday’s preseason game and did not return. If Green clears waivers, he will be placed on Detroit’s injured reserve list, ending his season unless the team opts to release him with an injury settlement.

Green was a key contender for the WR3 spot, competing with Donovan Peoples-Jones and Daurice Fountain, among others.

Additionally, the Lions have signed quarterback Jake Fromm due to Hendon Hooker’s concussion in the preseason opener against the New York Giants. Coach Dan Campbell mentioned that Hooker might be ready by Friday at the earliest, prompting the Lions to add another quarterback for Saturday’s preseason game against the Chiefs.

Fromm, a fifth-round pick by the Bills in 2020, has appeared in only three games with the Giants and was most recently with the Commanders before being released in May.

The Lions have also released Ike Boettger and signed linebacker Ty Summers. Boettger, who was added at the start of training camp, is now released, possibly indicating that Christian Mahogany might be close to returning. Campbell noted that Mahogany, still on the non-football illness list, has returned to the facility but needs to get in shape before resuming practice.

Summers, a veteran linebacker and former seventh-round pick of the Packers, has played 67 games over five seasons, mainly on special teams. He spent most of the offseason with the Jaguars, who released him on Sunday. He recorded two tackles in the Jaguars’ preseason opener, playing 12 defensive snaps and seven special teams snaps.
