The NBA moratorium has ended, allowing free agency deals to be finalized. The Golden State Warriors announced on Monday the signing of De’Anthony Melton, a five-year NBA veteran. In their statement regarding the move, Golden State provided details about Melton.
Melton, aged 26, played 38 games (33 as a starter) for the Philadelphia 76ers last season. He achieved a career-best average of 11.1 points, along with 3.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.58 steals per game in 26.9 minutes. As a five-year NBA veteran, Melton has competed in 350 games (146 starting) with the Phoenix Suns, Memphis Grizzlies, and 76ers, maintaining averages of 9.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.8 assists, and 1.41 steals in 22.9 minutes per game. In postseason play, he holds career averages of 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 19.8 minutes over 27 games (12 starting) with the Grizzlies and 76ers.
Golden State has executed several effective minor transactions this summer, with the signing of Melton standing out among them. Although the Warriors have not yet made the major acquisition many believe is necessary to compete strongly in the Western Conference next season, they have the potential to improve upon last year’s performance, marking progress in their journey forward.
