Mitchell Moses delivered a passionate speech in the Eels’ dressing room, which was intended to remain private but has since been made public. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, following their disappointing loss to Newcastle on Saturday night, the star halfback addressed the team with a forceful message, emphasizing that their success relies solely on their own efforts.
As a prominent figure within the club, Moses was reportedly directing criticism towards certain Eels officials. Despite choosing not to comment directly to the Herald, the halfback conveyed his perspective on the incident via text message.
“It has been a frustrating season, as you can imagine,” he wrote.
“After another loss, I had a private conversation in the dressing room immediately after the game. We’re all giving our best efforts, and our main goal is to win,” Moses said in his passionate post-match speech, which was overheard by several Parramatta officials, including general manager of football Mark O’Neill.Chief executive Jim Sarantinos had no objections to Moses’ remarks. “Mitch’s comments were understandable in the post-match dressing room environment following a closely contested game,” he told the Herald. “He was simply expressing his emotions after a hard-fought loss, where he and the team put in maximum effort but didn’t achieve the desired result for themselves and the club.”
Moses returned from a standout performance in State of Origin to support his team against the Knights, scoring a try and delivering a strong performance despite Parramatta’s loss in round 17.
Parramatta are currently tied for last place on the NRL ladder and are said to be nearing the appointment of a new head coach following the mid-season dismissal of Brad Arthur. Moses, along with other team members, had a close relationship with Arthur and have advocated for interim coach Trent Barrett to be appointed permanently.
The revelation of Moses’ emotional post-game speech coincides with discussions about star recruit Zac Lomax’s potential move to the club amid the uncertainty at Parramatta.
Moses and his teammates aim to end their losing streak in their upcoming match against the Rabbitohs on Thursday night.
