- Xavier Worthy, a 21-year-old wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, was arrested on March 7, 2025, in Georgetown, Texas, on a felony domestic violence charge. The accusation alleged that Worthy assaulted a family or household member by impeding their breathing, a third-degree felony in Texas.
Following his arrest, Worthy’s legal team, led by attorneys Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, refuted the allegations. They stated that the complainant had been residing with Worthy for the past two weeks and was asked to leave upon the discovery of her infidelity. The attorneys further claimed that the complainant caused property damage, physically assaulted Worthy by scratching his face and pulling his hair, and attempted extortion before making the allegations.
After conducting a thorough investigation and consulting with witnesses, the Williamson County District Attorney’s office decided not to pursue charges against Worthy. District Attorney Shawn Dick remarked that the case was declined “pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.” He added that the office would continue to evaluate the case and consider presenting it to a grand jury if new information emerged.
Worthy, who played college football at the University of Texas before joining the Chiefs as a first-round draft pick in 2024, had an impressive rookie season. He led the team’s wide receivers in receptions (59), receiving yards (638), and touchdowns (six). In Super Bowl LIX, Worthy recorded eight receptions for 157 yards and two touchdowns.
