“I am disappointed” coach reacted to another job snub..read more

“I’m not desperate,” Josh Hannay stated, expressing readiness to patiently wait after being overlooked by Parramatta.

Josh Hannay discussed being overlooked by Parramatta for the head coaching position, acknowledging he will patiently await the next chance. Despite praise from Craig Fitzgibbon and Billy Slater for his assistant coaching efforts, Hannay, along with Dean Young, missed out as Jason Ryles secured the role in a recent announcement by the club.

During his interview on SEN radio, Hannay openly discussed the selection process and redirected his attention to his roles with the Sharks and Maroons.

“I’d be dishonest if I didn’t admit to feeling a bit let down,” he remarked. “But my disappointment is tempered because I recognize how fortunate I am in my current roles. I’m grateful not to be in a desperate situation, as I already have two excellent jobs.”

“There will be another chance, and I found the selection process valuable. It was a close call between Jason Ryles and myself, and he deserves his opportunity. He’s had a great apprenticeship and is ready; I’m confident he’ll excel in the role. I’ll remain patient and await the next opportunity that arises.”

Hannay previously served as interim coach at Cronulla in 2021 and North Queensland in 2020 but was not chosen for the permanent position on either occasion.

Ryles will complete the season with the Melbourne Storm before joining the Eels in November, aiming to revitalize the struggling club.
