I feel ‘wanted again’ after Warriors exit

Klay Thompson describes his move to the Dallas Mavericks as a chance for a “new beginning” following a challenging end to his career with the Golden State Warriors. After spending 13 years with the Warriors, the 34-year-old has now joined the Mavericks. Thompson, selected as the 11th overall pick in the 2011 draft by the Warriors, appeared in six NBA finals from 2015 to 2022, winning four championships. However, he faced setbacks due to injuries, including nearly two years away from play between 2019 and 2021 due to knee and Achilles issues.

Thompson’s contract with the Warriors was set to end in June, but despite efforts from teammate Stephen Curry to extend his tenure, an agreement couldn’t be reached. “Coming here feels like a fresh start,” Thompson expressed. “Feeling valued again, knowing I can contribute… It motivates me to hit the gym right after this press conference and shoot some hoops.” Reflecting on his time with the Warriors, Thompson acknowledged challenges over the past year, noting it wasn’t as enjoyable as before.
