Ipswich Town fan pundit Henry believes Elkan Baggott has the potential to break into the first-team at Portman Road.
The rise under Kieran McKenna has been incredible, with the former Manchester United coach having inherited a side that appeared stuck in League One. Yet, they are now potentially weeks away from being a top-flight club once more.
What makes the improvement all the more impressive is that McKenna has largely stuck faith in the players who helped them out of the third tier.
Naturally, while immediate results are paramount for all clubs, Ipswich Town, like others, aspire to see academy players succeed in the first team. However, as these players progress, the challenge intensifies for younger talents to meet the elevated standards.
Nevertheless, there are some exciting talents coming through the ranks, and Ipswich fan pundit Henry believes that Elkan Baggott is someone who has the talent to force his way into McKenna’s plans.
The 21-year-old originally from Thailand relocated to England during his youth, where Ipswich signed him due to his footballing talent. Subsequently, he has been loaned out to various clubs including King’s Lynn, Gillingham, Cheltenham Town, and most recently, Bristol Rovers. Despite making a promising start with Bristol Rovers, his recent performance was marred by a 5-0 loss to Lincoln City, compounded by an injury that has sidelined him for the past two matches.
Fortunately for the player, he’s nearing a comeback and aims to participate in more matches as the season progresses. Additionally, Baggott, at just 21 years old, boasts significant experience, having earned 24 caps for Indonesia, including his recent participation in the Asian Cup. As he returns to Portman Road this summer, it will be intriguing to observe his development and determine the optimal next steps for him.
