Netflix has officially announced the release of a documentary titled Paterno: Beyond the Field, scheduled to debut in 2025. The film will offer an in-depth look into Joe Paterno’s illustrious career, his influence on college football, and his lasting legacy at Penn State University.
Known affectionately as “JoePa,” Paterno coached the Penn State Nittany Lions for more than 60 years, securing 409 career victories and two national championships. His coaching philosophy was not only focused on football but also stressed the importance of academic achievement and personal integrity. The documentary will explore this comprehensive approach, featuring interviews with former players, coaching staff, and Paterno’s family, along with rare archival footage and personal stories.
While the film will highlight Paterno’s remarkable accomplishments, it will also address the controversies that surfaced toward the end of his career.
