A 15-year-old boy was shot outside a church in West Philadelphia late Friday night, prompting an investigation by police. Officers on patrol heard gunfire and quickly responded to the 5000 block of Spruce St. just before midnight. Upon arrival, they found the teenager with a gunshot wound to his leg and transported him to the hospital, where he is now reported to be in stable condition.
At the scene, officers saw several people running away and were able to catch two of them, police said. Both suspects, believed to be teenagers, are now in custody.
Police reported that they are searching for at least two suspects who were observed fleeing the scene. The incident involved more than a dozen gunshots, suggesting that the 15-year-old boy might have been pursued before being struck. Police also confirmed that two handguns were recovered at the location.
There is no indication yet what may have sparked the shooting.
