Coventry City manager Mark Robins is focused on ending the season on a high note, even as he considers the team’s progress and what might be in store for next season. The Sky Blues have experienced a remarkable campaign, narrowly missing out on the play-offs and having a memorable run in the FA Cup, though this success came with a cost in terms of player injuries and fatigue. This might have impacted their promotion chances, as they recently missed key opportunities to secure a top-six finish.
With three games remaining, Coventry sits in eighth place with 63 points. Their upcoming matches against Blackburn Rovers, Ipswich Town, and Queens Park Rangers could still provide them with a chance to exceed their last season’s total of 70 points. However, reaching 72 points to surpass Norwich City, which currently has that tally with two games left, seems a challenging goal. Nonetheless, Robins is determined to push his team to finish the season on a high note and use this momentum to build for next year.
From that perspective we can only feel we have missed some opportunities in the last few weeks but we will reflect and look back on it, and I am sure we can improve moving forwards,” said the upbeat manager, speaking in today’s pre-match press conference where everything was back to normal, back on zoom and back to fielding questions from just CWR and CoventryLive – in stark contrast to facing a packed press auditorium at Wembley.
It’s going to be quite interesting to see how we perform over the next few games. We face some tough opponents, but we’ve had a solid season so far and we’re aiming to finish strong. We’re still trying to hit some targets, like surpassing last season’s totals, but it’s getting harder with fewer games and a shorter bench. Nevertheless, we’re heading into each match with a full effort to see what we can achieve.
However, looking back at where we started, everyone’s contributions, including the fans’, have been fantastic. We’re confident we’ll come back even stronger next season.
As we near the end of the season, we’re preparing to reflect on our journey. While we can be proud of some achievements, there’s a level of disappointment because we set high expectations. Given the tight schedule, it’s been challenging to maintain the top level of play. We still have three games to go, and those will be tough. When the season ends in about ten days, we’ll assess our performance, identify areas for improvement, and figure out how to build for the next season.
