Vincent Frank of Sportsnaut reports that JJ Redick is a top contender to replace Darvin Ham as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Redick had a lengthy meeting with the Lakers’ management, solidifying his position as a favorite. NBA insider Marc Stein has mentioned potential candidates for Redick’s coaching staff, including Sam Cassell from the Boston Celtics, James Borrego of the New Orleans Pelicans, and Jared Dudley from the Dallas Mavericks.
It makes perfect sense for Redick to find assistants with experience. After all, the long time NBA player has no experience of his own manning a bench.
Of the group listed above, James Borrego has experience as an NBA head coach. He served in that role with the Charlotte Hornets from 2018-22.
