Just In:Pitcher of the Year Hagen Smith heads the list of seven Arkansas baseball players named to the All-SEC teams…Read More.

Arkansas left-hander Hagen Smith was named SEC pitcher of the year Monday by league coaches.

Smith, a junior, boasts a 9-0 record with a 1.52 ERA and a 0.83 WHIP across 14 starts and 77 innings. His 150 strikeouts lead all players in college baseball.

Smith is the second Arkansas pitcher to earn the conference’s Pitcher of the Year award in the last four seasons, following Kevin Kopps, who won as a reliever in 2021. They join Nick Schmidt (2006) as the only Razorback pitchers to receive this honor.

On Monday, Smith was one of seven Razorbacks to receive All-SEC honors and was the sole Arkansas player named to the first team.

Second baseman Peyton Stovall and shortstop Wehiwa Aloy were second-team All-SEC selections. Pitcher Gabe Gaeckle and utility man Nolan Souza were named to the league’s all-freshman team, and third baseman Jared Sprague-Lott and outfielder Peyton Holt were named to the all-defensive team.

Stovall leads the Razorbacks with a .339 batting average and .952 OPS, and has a fielding percentage of .993. Aloy has been Arkansas’ best power hitter with team highs in home runs (13) and RBI (54).

Gaeckle is a Freshman All-America candidate with a 1.91 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and team-high 7 saves in 20 appearances and 37 2/3 innings. Gaeckle has been proficient in putting out fires, stranding 19 of 20 inherited base runners.

Souza has primarily been a designated hitter for the Razorbacks. He has a .259 batting average with 7 home runs, 7 doubles and 28 RBI in 38 games.

Holt, a converted infielder, has been a highlight machine while rotating between left, center and right field. Sprague-Lott has been steady at third base since some early struggles following his transfer from Richmond.

Georgia third baseman Charlie Condon, who leads college baseball with 35 home runs and a .351 batting average, earned the SEC’s position player of the year award. Condon and Smith are considered two leading candidates for national player of the year awards.

Texas A&M third baseman Gavin Grahovac earned freshman of the year. Grahovac is batting .322 with 19 home runs for the Aggies.

Kentucky’s Nick Mingione was coach of the year after leading the Wildcats to their first SEC championship since 2006. Kentucky split the title with Tennessee.
