Just In:”The potential repercussions of J.B. Bickerstaff’s dismissal on the search for a new head coach for the Los Angeles Lakers.”

Kenny Atkinson and James Borrego emerge as potential contenders for the Lakers’ coaching position. Atkinson, previously linked to the Cavaliers’ vacancy, holds a connection through coaching Caris LeVert and Jarrett Allen at the Brooklyn Nets. Meanwhile, NBA insider Marc Stein suggests keeping an eye on Sam Cassell in Cleveland, who was initially considered a top contender for the Lakers’ role.”

These candidates seem to run in the same group. If one team is interested, it stands to reason that another organization with an opening will also show interest.

Outside of their search for a new head coach, the Lakers have a ton of roster decisions to make this coming summer. King James will opt out of his contract. Whether he hits free ageny or re-signs with the Lakers ahead of the market opening remains to be seen.

Point guard D’Angelo Russel will also be a free agent this summer. He’s less likely to return to the Lakers after a drama-filled 2023-24 season.

“Amidst this, the Los Angeles Lakers are connected to significant NBA free agents and trade targets. However, their immediate priority remains appointing a new head coach. Cleveland’s move to dismiss Bickerstaff adds a layer of complexity to their plans.”
