The UNC basketball program’s interest in five-star forward Nate Ament is longstanding. The Tar Heels’ coaching staff has been monitoring the Warrenton, Virginia native for several months. Head coach Hubert Davis attended the John Wall Invitational in December to scout Ament, and three UNC coaches, including Davis, watched him courtside in Texas during the recent open recruiting period. Shortly after observing his performance, the Tar Heels extended an offer to Ament.
Ament announced on social media that he received an offer from the UNC basketball program, making him the fifth Class of 2025 player to get an offer from the Tar Heels in the past 48 hours. Despite the flurry of offers, Ament appears to be a top priority for the coaching staff. According to the latest 247Sports Composite rankings, Ament is the top player in Virginia and currently holds the No. 18 spot nationally, with the potential to move closer to or into the top 10 before his recruitment concludes.
Multiple ACC schools, including Virginia, Duke, Florida State, Louisville and Virginia Tech, are involved, as this won’t be an easy recruiting battle for the UNC basketball program to win. However, Ament would be a great fit in Hubert Davis’ system, as he has the skillset to really thrive in that “stretch four” role that has become so pivotal towards the UNC basketball program’s success.
