Wayne Rooney playfully teased Gary Neville during his inaugural media appearance as Plymouth boss, while also outlining his goals with the Championship team.
Wayne Rooney playfully remarked upon his return to management at Plymouth that he wasn’t aiming to emulate “the next Gary Neville,” poking fun at his close friend and former teammate’s brief and unsuccessful managerial tenure.
Rooney, now on his fourth managerial stint since retiring, has had spells at Derby County, DC United, and Birmingham City. Despite not yet establishing himself as a successful manager, the 38-year-old remains determined to prove himself in the dugout. Following his dismissal from Birmingham, he admitted to missing the game and expressed his eagerness to continue pursuing managerial opportunities. When questioned about his return to management, Rooney humorously remarked, “Because I don’t want to follow in Gary Neville’s footsteps!”
