Lakers lose final game of California Classic against the Heat

Despite their strongest performance in the Summer League during the California Classic, the Lakers concluded with a loss, falling 80-76 to the Heat on Wednesday afternoon.

Dalton Knecht had a standout performance for the Lakers, scoring 20 points while adding nine rebounds and an assist. Colin Castleton continued his impressive streak with a double-double of 18 points, 11 rebounds, two steals, three blocks, and three assists.

The Lakers started strong with a quick five-point lead, displaying more energy and focus than in previous games. Castleton led the offensive charge, including a successful 3-pointer. Knecht showed increased confidence, hitting his first three-pointer and aggressively driving to the basket to draw foul

Returning to the starting lineup after missing the previous game, Bronny scored a layup assisted by Knecht. Alondes Williams made a significant impact for the Heat early on, helping them narrow the gap. With Castleton resting, Knecht took charge offensively and was the first player from either team to reach double-digit points. The first quarter ended with the score tie.

In the second quarter, the Heat surged ahead with an 8-0 scoring run, causing the Lakers to increase their turnovers. Blake Hinson, who had difficulties scoring in the previous game, finally found his rhythm and started making baskets. Los Angeles responded with nine consecutive points, reducing the deficit to three after Miami had built a 10-point lead.

Despite facing challenges on offense, Lewis made significant contributions by securing rebounds, distributing assists, and blocking a shot. Los Angeles went on a 9-0 scoring streak, reclaiming a four-point lead heading into halftime.

The Lakers extended their scoring streak to 17-0 at the beginning of the third quarter. Knecht’s shooting was on target, and he also impressed with his rebounding. Throughout much of the quarter, the Lakers dominated offensively, with Knecht showcasing his skills.

Armel Traoré struggled to score but contributed with rebounds, a block, and a steal. Miami’s Williams and Keshad Johnson each scored 19 points, helping the Heat take a one-point lead by the end of the quarter.

The final quarter started with the Lakers going on a 7-0 run to halt Miami’s momentum from the third quarter. Lewis had a perfect shooting performance in the second half, making all four of his attempts after missing all ten in the first half.

With one minute remaining, the game was tied after the Heat scored eight consecutive points. They then took a two-point lead, and despite having possession with 18.9 seconds left, the Lakers missed their shot attempt. The Heat sealed their victory with two made free throws.
