The USA Basketball U18 training camp is a chance for Duke basketball’s Jon Scheyer to make waves in the Nate Ament sweepstakes.
Last Friday, Jon Scheyer and a couple of Duke basketball coaches traveled to Texas to observe five-star recruit Nate Ament perform impressively, scoring 25 points, grabbing four rebounds, and making five steals during Team Loaded VA’s triumph in the Adidas 3SSB Circuit.
A week later, Scheyer finds himself at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he’s actively involved as a court coach for the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s U18 National Team training camp. This presents yet another chance for the 36-year-old, who recently finalized the 2024-25 roster for his third season as head coach of the Blue Devils, to further his pursuit of Ament.
During the camp, Ament, standing at 6-foot-9 and weighing 200 pounds, showcased his exceptional talent once more, as reported by 247Sports’ Adam Finkelstein. Ament, among over two dozen contenders vying for 12 spots on the Team USA roster ahead of the FIBA U18 AmeriCup in Buenos Aires from June 3-9, exhibited his top-tier potential for Scheyer and others to witness.
Nate Ament, recently concluding his junior season at Highland School (Va.) and currently ranked No. 18 overall on the 247Sports 2025 Composite, received a Duke basketball offer following his unofficial visit to Durham in September. While he hasn’t disclosed any finalists or scheduled official visits yet, Duke seems to be one of the top contenders in his recruitment, alongside ACC rivals Virginia and Virginia Tech.
