OU Softball: Five Oklahoma Stars Earn Softball America All-American Honors…

Awards are rolling in for Oklahoma after another successful season has the 2-seeded Sooners in position to defend their back-to-back-to-back national titles at the 2024 Women’s College World Series.

Oklahoma was prominently featured in the initial batch of postseason awards ahead of the Women’s College World Series.

Five Sooners received All-American honors from Softball America, including two First-Team selections, one Second-Team selection, and two Freshman All-American selections.

Center fielder Jayda Coleman and shortstop Tiare Jennings were named to the First-Team after leading OU back to Oklahoma City.

Coleman, who is fifth on the team with a .394 batting average, has drawn a team-high 50 walks, resulting in a .532 on-base percentage. Despite primarily batting leadoff, she has 42 RBIs, 12 home runs, a 1.213 OPS, and has excelled defensively in center field.

Jennings leads OU with 22 home runs in 2024 and has tied Lauren Chamberlain’s career record of 95 home runs. Transitioning from second base to shortstop, she has been a strong defender and is hitting .372 with 14 doubles, 63 RBIs, and a 1.283 OPS.

Third baseman Alyssa Brito earned Second-Team All-American honors from Softball America.

 

Brito ranks fourth on the team with a .406 batting average and leads the Sooners with four triples this season. She has also hit 18 home runs, driven in 59 runs, and boasts a team-high 1.324 OPS.

 

Ella Parker and Kasidi Pickering were named to the Freshman All-American Team after stellar debut seasons.

 

Parker leads the team with a .419 batting average, has hit 12 home runs, and driven in 57 runs. She has drawn 32 walks, stolen 17 bases, and her .526 on-base percentage ranks 12th in the nation.

Pickering has hit 10 home runs in her debut season at Norman, maintaining a .394 batting average with 48 RBIs and a 1.214 OPS.

The Sooners will kick off their pursuit of a fourth consecutive WCWS title at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Devon Park in Oklahoma City. OU will face the 10th-seeded Duke Blue Devils in a rematch of their second game of the season in Mexico.
