Philadelphia Phillies Become First Team to ….

The Philadelphia Phillies, holding a 1.5-game lead for the best record in baseball as of Wednesday, showed no signs of slowing down before the All-Star break. Following their 4-3 win against the Los Angeles Dodgers, they became the first MLB team this season to reach 60 wins and secured a series victory over the NL West leaders, positioning themselves for a potential sweep on Thursday.

Achieving their 60th win in just 92 games also marked a historic milestone for the Phillies. According to TSN’s Stats Centre, this is the fewest games any Phillies team has needed to reach 60 wins since the franchise’s inception in 1883.

The 1976 Phillies still hold the overall record, starting that season with a 60-28 record. That year marked the beginning of a successful period for the team, which included five division championships, two NL pennants, and a World Series title.

The current Phillies team has secured consecutive playoff appearances, clinching the NL pennant in 2022 and narrowly missing out on another in 2023. With Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber returning to the lineup, supported by a formidable rotation of ace pitchers, and having set a historic pace ahead of all other teams, Philadelphia is strongly positioned to compete for another championship in 2024.

The Phillies and Dodgers will conclude their highly anticipated series at 6:05 p.m. ET on Thursday. Aaron Nola will start on the mound for Philadelphia, while Landon Knack will be pitching for Los Angeles.
