Just a few months after joining a new team, wide receiver DeVante Parker has chosen to retire.
The nine-season NFL veteran, who was a first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins, announced his retirement to ESPN on Monday night.
Parker had signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in March, but has now decided to conclude his career following seven seasons with the Dolphins and two with the New England Patriots.
After nearly a decade in the league, Parker ends his NFL career with 402 catches for 5,660 yards and 27 touchdowns over 119 games.
The 31-year-old wide receiver’s standout season came in 2019, with career highs of 72 catches for 1,202 yards and nine touchdowns.
Parker played his last two seasons with the New England Patriots. Despite signing a three-year, $33 million extension last June, he managed only 33 catches for 394 yards in 13 games. The Patriots released him in March.
With Parker’s retirement, the Eagles will lose some depth, but they still boast a wealth of skill talent in their wide receiver group and other positions. Philadelphia’s current wide receiver depth chart features stars A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith at the top, with free-agent acquisition Parris Campbell likely in the No. 3 spot. Late-round rookies Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith are also aiming to make an impact. Additionally, tight end Dallas Goedert and running back Saquon Barkley are expected to be significant targets for quarterback Jalen Hurts.
