On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers received disappointing news as one of their front office staff members accepted a position with an NFC competitor.
The Seahawks have named Joey Laine their new vice president of football administration, taking over from Matt Thomas, who left after 11 years. Laine, formerly with the Green Bay Packers as a salary cap analyst, brings almost two decades of NFL front office expertise. He notably served seven years as the Bears’ director of football administration, overseeing contract negotiations, salary cap management, and ensuring compliance with the CBA.
A graduate of the University of New Orleans, Laine earned his MBA from Tulane before beginning his career in the NFL as a football operations intern in 2005. Laine’s 10 seasons with the Saints included six seasons as the team’s salary cap analyst.
Laine and Chad Brinker, who previously worked alongside Packers VP Russ Ball, have taken on significant roles with other teams. Brinker, now serving as the Titans’ president of football operations, leaves a gap for the Packers to address in supporting Ball with their salary cap management.
