The final matchups for the FIBA Olympic Qualifiers are confirmed: Brazil will take on Latvia in Riga, Greece will face Croatia, and the Bahamas will challenge Spain, all competing for spots in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Most of the semifinals in the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments (OQT) have concluded, establishing three final matchups.
Brazil secured the first spot in the final by defeating Gilas Pilipinas. The South American team will now face Latvia, the host nation, for the sole qualification spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Meanwhile, in Piraeus, Greece, led by Giannis Antetokounmpo, advanced by defeating Slovenia, led by Luka Doncic. They will meet Croatia in the final, who defeated the Dominican Republic.
In Valencia, the Bahamas had a convincing victory over Lebanon, while Spain overcame Finland. The Bahamas, aiming for their debut in the Olympic basketball tournament, could potentially become the smallest nation ever to participate in it.
LJ Rose, Director of Operations for the Bahamas national team, expressed to Basket News the significance of potentially qualifying for the Olympics. “It would be a huge achievement,” Rose said. “We’re a small nation, but we take immense pride in our accomplishments.”
In Puerto Rico, the only remaining unknown pair for the Olympic Qualifiers finals will see Italy against Lithuania in the first semifinal, while Puerto Rico will take on Mexico in the other.
All four finals will be played on Sunday, July 7.
