So Sad:Detroit Lions offensive lineman reportedly suffers season-ending injury

The Detroit Lions’ reserve offensive line is facing significant setbacks. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that offensive tackle Connor Galvin sustained a torn MCL during Thursday night’s preseason game against the New York Giants, requiring season-ending surgery.

Galvin was injured in the second half when he was rolled up on, resulting in him being unable to put weight on his leg and being carted off the field. This injury marks the second season-ending issue for a Lions backup offensive lineman, following Netane Muti’s shoulder injury earlier in training camp, which also landed him on injured reserve. Additionally, rookie Christian Mahogany is on the non-football illness list, Kevin Zeitler has been sidelined at times, and Kayode Awosika has returned after a brief absence from practice.

Galvin was competing for a spot as one of Detroit’s offensive tackles, alongside Colby Sorsdal and Dan Skipper. The preseason opener also saw other injuries: defensive tackle David Bada suffered a potentially serious Achilles injury, while quarterback Hendon Hooker and receiver Antoine Green experienced concussions. Edge rusher James Houston has a bone bruise in his knee, safety Morice Norris has a hamstring issue, and defensive end Nate Lynn has a shoulder injury and was reportedly carted off.

Coach Dan Campbell has categorized the injuries to Bada and Galvin as “long-term,” though he acknowledged that concussions are harder to predict. The Lions resume practice on Sunday, which should provide more clarity on these injuries.
