Storm Henk update: Met Office issues warning of torrential rain & power outages as fallen tree claims driver’s life.
The recent storm, named Storm Henk, has brought heavy rainfall and severe weather conditions across England and Wales. As a result, the Met Office has issued a warning for heavy rain and potential power cuts over the next two days.
Tragically, during the storm, a man in his 50s lost his life when a large tree fell on his car in Gloucestershire. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, prompting a response from Gloucestershire Police. They arrived at the scene at around 3.15pm after receiving reports of the fallen tree on an A road.
In addition to the fatal accident, the heavy rainfall has caused widespread flooding across the region. National Highways has reported several major road closures due to the flooding, resulting in significant travel disruption and delays for commuters.
Great Western Railway has also experienced blockages on parts of its network due to the flooding. Likewise, South Western Railway services have been heavily impacted, and disruptions are expected to continue throughout Wednesday.
Given the severity of the situation, the Met Office has advised residents in the southern region to be cautious and prepared for the potential consequences of the storm. The yellow rain warning highlights the risk of flooding in homes and the potential for power cuts during this period.
As authorities continue to monitor the situation, it is important for individuals to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
