Ryan Kreidler and Andy Ibanez will start in the infield on Thursday afternoon against a left-handed pitcher.
The Detroit Tigers (32-35) aim to avoid a sweep by the Washington Nationals (32-35) in their 1:10 p.m. game at Comerica Park.
Catcher Carson Kelly, infielders Colt Keith and Zach McKinstry, and outfielder Akil Baddoo will be available as substitutes. The complete lineup is listed below.
On the mound, Tigers right-hander Casey Mize (1-4, 4.73 ERA) will face Nats lefty Patrick Corbin (1-7, 6.15).
Mize has given up 17 runs (14 earned) on 30 hits over 15 1/3 innings in his last four starts. During this period, he has walked eight batters and struck out seven.
In his last start on June 8 against the Brewers, Mize generated a lot of soft contact but only managed one swing-and-miss in his 97-pitch performance.
Originally, left-hander MacKenzie Gore was scheduled to start Thursday’s game, but he was scratched due to a fingernail issue and replaced by Corbin.
