Mandisa, an alum of American Idol and a Grammy-winning Christian music artist, passed away in her Nashville, Tennessee home on Thursday, April 18, as reported by K-LOVE Radio. She was 47 years old, and the cause of her death remains unknown. David Pierce, Chief Media Officer of the Christian radio network, issued a statement in response to the heartbreaking news.
Mandisa loved Jesus, and she used her unusually extensive platform to talk about Him at every turn,” he penned. “Her kindness was epic, her smile electric, her voice massive, but it was no match for the size of her heart. Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles. Mandisa’s struggles are over, she is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.”
Born Mandisa Lynn Hundley, the vocalist rose to fame by competing on the fifth season of American Idol, where she achieved a place in the Top 9. This success preceded the release of her debut album, “True Beauty,” in 2007.
According to People, the vocalist clinched a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Christian Music Album in 2013 with her album “Overcomer.” Additionally, she received two Grammy nominations for her albums “True Beauty” and “Freedom” in 2019, as well as for her 2011 album “What If We Were Real.”
