The highly anticipated 2025 World Disability Snooker Championship is set to take place from February 25 to March 2 in Nonthaburi, Thailand, marking a significant milestone in the sport’s global development. The tournament will feature an impressive lineup of 69 players from 17 countries, showcasing the increasing worldwide appeal and inclusivity of disability snooker.

 

A Global Stage for Disability Snooker

 

This historic event, organized by World Disability Billiards and Snooker (WDBS) in partnership with the Sports Association for the Disabled of Thailand (SPADT), will bring together a diverse field of competitors from across five continents. Notably, players from Iceland, Indonesia, Libya, Pakistan, and the United States will be making their debut on the WDBS Tour, further expanding the international reach of the sport.

 

The championship aims to provide a competitive platform for players with disabilities, reinforcing WDBS’s commitment to promoting accessibility and opportunities in snooker. The participation of athletes from various backgrounds and regions highlights the rapid expansion of disability snooker, as more nations recognize and support the sport’s development.

 

Tournament Format and Classification

 

The event will be divided into six separate competitions, each catering to different classification groups based on the players’ disabilities. Competitors in Groups 1-5 will participate in individual tournaments, while players in Groups 6A, 6B, 7, and 8 will compete in a combined event with adjusted scoring to ensure fair competition.

 

To maximize inclusivity, players who do not advance past the group stages will have the chance to compete in a Challenge Cup, providing additional match experience and competitive opportunities. The format is designed to ensure that all participants have meaningful engagement throughout the tournament.

 

Significance of the Event

 

Hosting the championship in Thailand underscores the growing recognition of disability snooker in Asia. The venue, located at the Multipurpose Building, Office of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence in Srisaman, Nonthaburi, provides a world-class setting for this landmark event.
