Wrexham come in and blow us out the water’ …..read

Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough conceded that his team were outmatched by League One rivals Wrexham in the transfer market for a defender.

Nigel Clough openly discussed Mansfield’s failure to secure the signing of Lewis Brunt, who opted to join Wrexham. This move underscores Wrexham’s ambitious intentions to establish themselves in the third tier after their promotion, having outbid Mansfield in the final moments.

Mansfield Town had Lewis Brunt on loan from Leicester last season, where his versatility as a defender contributed to their automatic promotion to League One, closely trailing Wrexham and Stockport County. However, instead of securing him permanently, they faced a more lucrative offer from Stockport County, leading him to choose them over Mansfield. Meanwhile, Wrexham have strengthened their squad by signing goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and midfielder George Dobson on free transfers from Arsenal and Charlton Athletic, respectively.

Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough acknowledged that his team were significantly outbid by League One rivals Wrexham in the transfer market for a defender. Clough openly discussed how Mansfield and Peterborough were competing closely for Lewis Brunt’s signature, with Mansfield initially offering slightly more than Peterborough. However, Wrexham made a substantially higher bid at the last minute, along with more favorable personal terms that Mansfield and Peterborough couldn’t match. This financial disparity, Clough emphasized, made it impossible for Mansfield to compete effectively in securing Brunt’s services.
